In the case of the media diary, the habit of eating dinner while watching came as a result of the availability of television. Also, the worries due to the coronavirus came across as a result of information attained from the tv at the subway station. However, those against technological determinism argue that, even if there wasn’t advancement in technology to cover these areas and serve these purposes, there would be other systems in place to do the work, for example, there would be other means of entertainment. It is symptomatic of some order of society or some qualities of human nature, either less or more potent than televisual technology.
In the early days, with television invention, they were mainly communal. However, with time, television technology has been individualized to reach each and everyone at the convenience of their homes, although some of the televisions are still available for public use. From the media dairy, at 3:00 pm on 29th, the viewer has the chance to watch the news for five minutes as he/she waits for a train at the Castle Frank subway system. On the other hand, on the same day and the following day at 7:30 pm and 10:30 am respectively, the viewers watch an Indian movie at home. This comparison shows how various television usage has been serving both public and personal needs. Social media are seen to be an alternative channel for transmission of information. Therefore it has an impact on television viewing habits, with the time allocated for television watch(Meehan, Eileen R. 30). For example, the time allocated for television for over 48 hours covered by the media diary is only four hours and five minutes. This may be because of the requirements of video, which is the convenience of watching. Televisions are not portable as it is the case with phones placed in strategic places only where people can watch from. Therefore other televisual media devices are taking over television.
According to many Americans, the question is not whether they watch television but for how long. Almost everyone watches the TV, but the quality of time allocated to view depends on the schedule that one has. In the media diary, the viewer is free on January 30th, 10:30 am. It makes it convenient for the viewer to watch. In case of shortage in time, television watching becomes impossible.

The viewer takes time to catch up due to some missed episodes — the videos intended with the ability to entice the following.
Television operations were seen to give the viewers what they need. Televisions provide authority to the viewers to choose what to watchamong several choices. For example, in the case of the media diary, the viewer chooses to watch the news, specifically on the trending coronavirus. She is also specific to the Indian movie that she is following. She knows the time at which to catch it. It is easy to time the desired programs with convenience.A new feature pops up at this stage, where the viewer intents to watch a few episodes to catch up with the movie. Unlike YouTube, television has a regular schedule that provides the intended information at the specified time. It requires the viewer to avail themselves for viewing at the time the program runs. On the other hand, with YouTube, one can watch the videos at their own convenient time and not a specified time frame, a shortcoming of television.
The interest of the viewer plays a great deal in determining their behavior towards viewing. From the media diary, the viewer takes less interest in the news as compared to entertainment (Indian movie ) four hours spent on the film. In contrast, five minutes on the news, which are viewed by chance while waiting for the train, she doesn’t even follow more when she gets home as she does with the Indian movie. Therefore apart from the technology itself, personal interest has its role too.
